Remembering David 'Kegsy' Keegan

Remembering David 'Kegsy' Keegan

Campion AFC were deeply saddened in October 2024 to lose one of the most important and much-loved figures in the club’s history – our long-serving secretary, David ‘Kegsy’ Keegan.

For over twenty years, David was the heartbeat of Campion behind the scenes. His tireless dedication, encyclopaedic knowledge of league rules and regulations, and unrelenting attention to detail earned him a reputation as arguably one of the finest secretaries in the Northern Counties East League, the West Riding County Amateur League and the West Yorkshire League – if not the very best.

One of David’s proudest personal achievements was that, throughout his entire time in post, Campion never once received a fine or charge – a testament to his professionalism, diligence and absolute commitment to doing things the right way.

Away from Campion, David was also a passionate Bradford City supporter, a loyal Bantam who followed his team through the highs and lows. He was present at Valley Parade on that tragic day in May 1985, an experience that shaped his deep connection to football and strengthened his belief in the importance of community, friendship and loyalty that the game provides.

David was not just an outstanding secretary – he was a wonderful person, a friend to many at the club, and someone who will forever be remembered for his wit, warmth and generosity of spirit.

He is survived by his loving wife Kath, and our thoughts remain with her and all of David’s family and friends.

Campion will forever be grateful for David’s decades of service, and we will ensure his memory and legacy live on through the club he gave so much to.

Rest in peace, Kegsy. You’ll always be part of the Campion family. ❤️?
