We welcome Frickley Athletic to Scotchman Road this Wednesday evening for our latest Northern Counties East League Premier Division fixture, with kick-off set for 7.45pm.

The lads return home determined to put recent results behind them and collect three valuable points in front of our own supporters. Saturday’s 2-3 defeat at Thackley was a frustrating one after we had shown real fight to get back into the contest, but it followed a memorable 4-3 victory at Albion Sports where the attacking quality was there for all to see. Before that we secured a professional 2-0 win at Dearne and District, underlining the progress being made on the road. At Scotchman Road the story has been different so far this season, with narrow losses to Retford FC and Parkgate leaving us still searching for that first home league victory of the campaign. Wednesday night offers the perfect opportunity to put that right.

Frickley come into the game looking to improve their own position after a tough opening to the season. They will arrive organised and ready for a physical battle, as any side at this level does. Our focus remains firmly on our own performance. The coaching staff have been working hard on the training ground this week, emphasising defensive organisation while encouraging the forward players to continue expressing themselves. Goals have come from a variety of sources already this term, with Ewan Gregson, Sonny Whittingham, Patrick Sykes, Shay Muirhead and others all contributing. That spread of goalscorers is a real strength and something we will look to build on again under the lights.

Home advantage can be decisive in the NCEL Premier Division. The atmosphere generated by our supporters at Scotchman Road has lifted the team on many occasions in the past and we need that same energy again this week. Every voice counts, whether you are a regular or making your first visit of the season. The players respond to the noise and the backing from the terraces, and a strong turnout would give everyone a real lift as we look to climb the table.

This fixture also forms part of a busy period for the squad. With FA Vase action to follow at the weekend and further league games coming thick and fast, points on the board now will stand us in good stead as the season develops. The group remains positive and together. There is belief that the performances are close to turning into more consistent results, particularly at home. A solid start, concentration throughout the ninety minutes and the clinical edge we showed at Albion Sports would give us every chance of taking the win.

We know Frickley will make it competitive from the first whistle. Our response must be to match that intensity, control the key areas of the pitch and create the opportunities our attacking players thrive on. The supporters have a big role to play in that.
