Match Preview | Horbury Town vs Campion AFC
NCEL Premier Division | Friday Evening
Campion return to action on Friday evening with a trip to the Pulse Hire Ltd Stadium to face Horbury Town in the NCEL Premier Division, as both sides look to build on a strong run of form heading into the second half of the season.
Those who witnessed the reverse fixture earlier this campaign will know just how hard-fought this encounter can be. Campion were made to work from first whistle to last against a resilient Horbury side who refused to give in, pushing the visitors all the way in a thoroughly competitive contest.
Historically, previous meetings between the two sides have fallen in Campion’s favour — so far. The first official meeting came during the 2022/23 season, when promotion-hopefuls Campion travelled to a high-flying Horbury Town side enjoying an impressive first campaign at Step 5 level. On that evening, Campion ran out emphatic 7-0 winners in front of 288 spectators, with goals from Aidan Day, Patrick Sykes, Aidan Kirby, braces for Marcus Day, and substitute Ashley Flynn, who marked his debut for the club in style.
The reverse fixture that season proved far tighter. With Campion sitting top of the league and closing in on promotion as champions, Horbury once again showed their never-say-die attitude, but ultimately fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Anytime Couriers Stadium. Goals from Aidan Kirby and a dramatic last-minute header from Patrick Sykes sealed the points.
Like Campion, Horbury Town’s form has picked up significantly since the beginning of November. Now four points clear of the relegation zone, they are scoring goals freely and possess several attacking threats, including former Campion player Joe Jagger, alongside Abdul Asamoah and Sam Kyeremeh. Their last ten fixtures in all competitions have yielded six wins, two draws and two defeats, underlining the challenge that awaits.
Campion know this will be another tough test, with the visitors aiming to keep their play-off ambitions firmly alive, while Horbury continue their push to stay clear of the drop zone.
After the frustration of two successive postponements, we are very much looking forward to getting back on the pitch and travelling to the Pulse Hire Ltd Stadium for what promises to be an entertaining Friday night under the lights.
