A View from the Committee Room – Glasshougton Welfare Programme

Well after 53 years we have finally done something we have talked about for several years and made the step up into the semi professional pyramid system and welcome everyone to our first ever league game at this level and extend a warm welcome to our friends from Glasshoughton.

I think I need to start by saying that having been involved with Campion FC for over 30 years how proud I will be tonight when the players walk out for our first home game in the NCEL. Along with longstanding Committee members Delroy Dacres, Bob Stead and Dave Keegan for our sins we have given over 100 years service to our club and I am sure after the game we will all have a nice little drink to celebrate this historic event.

A lot of hard work has gone on over the last 12 months to not only get our ground up to standard and get the floodlights installed but at the same time get the funding in place. With this in mind I would like to say a BIG thank you to The Football Foundation for the grant we were awarded, The Bradford & District FA for the help they gave us with a loan towards the cost and Manningham Concrete for the donations they made of materials. Without their help we would not be here tonight.

Also, a number of Campion Committee members have but a lot of time an effort into ensuring what we set out to achieve has happened, these include our Chairman Richard Holmes who unfortunately cant he here tonight as he is sunning himself in Italy. Our hard working 1st Team manager James Bicknall who has been one of the main driving forces behind the whole project, Dave Turner, Bob Stead, Delroy Dacres, Dave Keegan, Shabba, Mark Palfreeman and Michael Kaye. Who without all their hard work what we have achieved would not have happened.

At this point I would like to thank all our Sponsors who have again all been extremely generous and I would ask you to have a look through the programme and ask that if you require any of the services that they offer you give them a go, knowing most of them I can fully recommend them. Mention that you heard about them in our programme.

Onto the playing side of things and I am delighted to welcome all our new players to the club and our new 1st Team Coach Hayden Lobley who’s experience at this level will be invaluable . We have looked round and got what we regard as the best players from the league we played in last season and integrated them with the players we had last season. This new venture is something that is therefore new to us all and we are on this journey together. I am sure judging by the hard work, effort and commitment shown by everyone so far then we can look forward to a good season and hopefully we can all enjoy this new experience together and see where this journey takes us.

Finally, if anybody would like to get involved in any capacity, committee member, match day helper or even as a sponsor please do not hesitate one of the current committee. Hope you all enjoy the game this evening.
